Liliana Campos decided to make a clarification on the program ‘Passadeira Vermelha’, after, in one of the most recent broadcasts, she talked about the disease diabetes and received a lot of criticism and accusations about having had a “lack of empathy”.
The presenter explained the content of her words, highlighting that she “never” questioned the seriousness of the disease.
“I remembered a topic that we talked about here on Wednesday. Inês Abrantes, on her social networks, said that she has diabetes and talked about the dynamics of her day-to-day life. I have never, at any time, questioned the seriousness of the disease and the fact that Inês Abrantes feels diabetes the way she does. What I said here was that that video was not explanatory and that it was a drought”he began by saying.
Liliana Campos ended up apologizing to anyone who may have felt offended by her words and reinforced that her intention was “never” to devalue the disease: “So that you know at home, my grandmother Daniela died blind from diabetes. And my uncle was amputated because of diabetes. I, at no time, was light or showed a lack of empathy towards diabetes patients. At home, if you misunderstood, I apologize. What I said was that Inês’ video was a bit dry, it’s not a language for me, I don’t follow it either (…). But I never put people who suffer from diabetes into question, because I have this problem in my family and it is something that I control in my analyses, it is something that I am afraid of, it is something that runs in my family, therefore, I would never say anything bad or show little empathy towards people who have diabetes”.
