The Minister of Justice and Public Security, , said that the request for extradition of the former deputy (-RJ) is still awaiting a response from the .
In December, the minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) ordered the opening of Ramagem’s extradition process, which is being processed at the State Department.
The definitive condemnation of the central nucleus of the coup plot, of which the parliamentarian was part, was decreed by Moraes on November 25th.
The statement was given in a public hearing at the Foreign Relations and National Defense Committee of the Chamber of Deputies
At the time, the minister stated that the detention by ICE, the United States immigration service, did not occur due to an extradition request, but for issues related to American immigration legislation.
Ramagem was detained by the US immigration service in April. Brazilian authorities stated, at the time, that the action took place within the scope of cooperation between the two countries.
Days later, he was released and, subsequently, the State Department, through the Office of Western Hemisphere Affairs, accused delegate Marcelo Ivo de Carvalho, without mentioning his name, of having “manipulated” the migration system to circumvent formal channels, classifying the action as an extension of “political persecution” on American territory.
The Minister of Justice said, however, that all operational acts, such as approach and detention, would have been fully carried out by North American authorities.
“There was no participation of PF officers in operational or decision-making activities,” he said.
The arrest and his subsequent release opened a new front of friction between Brazil and the government of , exposing conflicting versions and tensions.
During the public hearing, the deputy (Novo-RS) even criticized the stance of the Federal director general, Andrei Rodrigues, for not appearing at two hearings in which he was called.
He was interrupted by government parliamentarians while questioning the minister about the possible dismissal of Andrei Rodrigues.
