Péter Magyar introduces anti-corruption measures. Hungary wants to join the European Public Prosecutor’s Office

Péter Magyar confirmed Hungary’s intention to join the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. In Brussels, he wants to use this anti-corruption step to release frozen EU money.

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced on Facebook on Thursday that he will submit Hungary’s intention to join the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO). The Prime Minister said this in a video after his arrival in Brussels, where he will meet with the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) Mark Rutte and the Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, informs the TASR correspondent in Budapest.

“I will soon officially present to the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council Hungary’s intention to join the European Public Prosecutor’s Office,” Magyar said.

Intention to join the EPPO

According to him, the decision was one of the main campaign promises of his Tisza party ahead of the April 12 parliamentary elections and is one of the anti-corruption measures the Hungarian government has taken to free up frozen EU funds destined for Hungary as a result of the policies of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s government.

Magyar and a delegation of members of his cabinet will discuss this issue with EU representatives in Brussels, and on Friday they will also meet with EC President Ursula von der Leyen.
