Members of US President Donald Trump’s administration are trying to convince the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to create a $250 bill emblazoned with the president’s own image. The information was released by The Washington Post this Thursday (28).
If the idea goes ahead, Trump will break a cycle of more than a century and a half by becoming the first living citizen to illustrate the country’s paper money during that period.
This initiative follows another dollar change announced by the Treasury Department in March, which plans to put Trump’s signature on all new bills.

This will also be an unprecedented event for an American president who is still in office, as the historical custom is for notes to bear only the signatures of the country’s Treasury secretary and treasurer.
In an official note, the Treasury explained that the new banknotes will bear the autograph of the department’s secretary, Scott Bessent, but justified the decision by saying that “there is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country” than stamping Trump’s name on the banknotes.
These moves are part of a series of recent decisions to use the president’s name on United States symbols and institutions. This includes renaming the United States Institute of Peace, the Kennedy Center and naming a new line of warships.

Furthermore, at the end of April, the State Department had already announced the production of a limited number of passports with Trump’s face to celebrate 250 years of American independence.
