The Minister of Labor and Employment, Luiz Marinho, said that he sees the Federal Senate also “sensitive” to society’s demand for the end of the 6×1 work schedule. The Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) was approved on Wednesday, 27th, by the Chamber of Deputies and went to the Senate. The PEC foresees a 14-month transition to reduce the working day from 44 hours to 40 hours per week.
“Parliament’s time is Parliament’s time. Obviously, if the Senate is focused on priority, with the desire for the agility that the Chamber worked on, 30 days is enough”, estimated Marinho.
The minister spoke at a press conference to comment on the result of the New General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (Caged) for April.
Regarding the update of the revenue limits for individual microentrepreneurs (MEIs), through changes in Simples Nacional, the minister said that the update will be a way of improving the sector, not a form of compensation at the end of the 6×1 scale.
According to him, with the reduction in working hours, MEI will eventually have to hire more than one employee. “So, this is a possibility that does not simply come as compensation, but as a natural updating process that could happen independently of the debate about the journey.”
He said that the federal government signaled the possibility of analyzing the situation and the ministers of Planning, Bruno Moretti, and Finance, Dario Durigan, will evaluate these possibilities.

“The dialogue is always open, the government has a lot of listening and a lot of sensitivity to listen, together with the sectors analyzed. What it cannot do is think about tax compensation, which is what some sectors initially talked about. We discarded it all the time, and continue to discard any debate on compensation”, concluded Marinho.
