The Milan prosecutor’s office is investigating two Iranians suspected of threatening compatriots in exile. The case reveals the Tehran regime’s pressure on dissidents in Europe.
Authorities in Milan have begun an investigation into two Iranians living in Italy who are suspected of making threats against their compatriots opposing the regime in Tehran. Referring to court documents, Reuters reported on this on Friday. According to her, the prosecutor’s office also ordered to carry out police searches at the place of residence of the suspects, writes TASR.
This case is related to the complaints of several Iranian citizens living in Italy. In one of them, an Iranian dissident said that she had a phone call in which she was informed that she had been sentenced to death in Iran for supporting the opposition and that her property in the homeland would be confiscated.
Threats on Instagram
One of the suspects set up an Instagram account from which death threats were sent to anyone who supports proposals for the son of Iran’s former shah, Reza Pahlavi, to take power in Iran.
The court document said both suspects regularly participated in the activities of an Islamic center in Milan linked to the Iranian consulate.
Protests and rallies
The threats allegedly took place in January – a time of anti-government protests in Iran – and during a dissident rally outside the Iranian consulate in Milan in March 2026.
Shortly after the Iranian regime brutally suppressed domestic anti-government protests in early January, the US and Israel launched a series of attacks on Iran in late February.
Security warnings in Europe
In connection with these developments in the Near and Middle East, the authorities of European states have repeatedly warned of possible connections with Iran in several incidents in Europe, including arson attacks on Jewish targets in London or the foiled attack on the Bank of America branch in Paris.
