Ciro Gomes and Tasso Jereissati defend Aécio Neves’ candidacy

Toucans present their name as an alternative to polarization; the deputy has not yet confirmed the dispute with Planalto

The pre-candidate for the government of Ceará, (PSDB), and the former senator (PSDB) defended the candidacy of the federal deputy (PSDB-MG) to the Presidency of the Republic and stated that the PSDB must present a centrist alternative in the face of political polarization.

In a statement, the two politicians state that the country needs moderation and conciliation to face economic and social challenges and reduce division in the public debate. Here is the statement (PDF – 42.8 kB).

The deepening of the ideological divide, manipulated from side to side in a self-serving and short-term manner, will not allow Brazil to come together as it dramatically needs to, after the radicalized electoral dispute”, said Ciro.

The note of support comes after the PSDB-Cidadania federation Aécio Neves as a pre-candidate for Planalto. The deputy, who currently commands the PSDB at a national level, has not yet confirmed whether he will enter the 2026 presidential race.

Tasso Jereissati also expressed support for the eventual candidacy and highlighted the party’s legacy. “Aécio Neves’ candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic reaffirms our historic commitment, as a party that changed Brazil, with achievements that to this day are reflected in the lives of all Brazilians, such as the redemocratization of the country, the Real Plan, the Fiscal Responsibility Law and the Social Protection Network, which are the origin of programs such as Bolsa Família”, he stated.
