Peskov welcomes Hungary’s decision not to supply weapons to Ukraine: This gesture can accelerate peace!

The Kremlin positively evaluated the Brussels statement of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Péter Magyar, who said at a meeting with the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Mark Rutte on Thursday that Hungary will not supply weapons and military equipment to Ukraine. This was reported by the Russian state news agency TASS on Friday. Based on the telex.hu report, the correspondent of TASR in Budapest informs about it.

“If one of the parties says that it considers it unnecessary to add fuel to the fire, that can only be welcomed,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday. According to him, it would peace would have come sooner if all countries had given up arms supplies to Ukraine.

Magyar announced on Thursday after the meeting with Rutte that he told the NATO Secretary General that Hungary will not send weapons or combat equipment to the Russo-Ukrainian war.

Peskov added that Europe cannot be a mediator in resolving the conflict in Ukraine, because, in his opinion, it is Europe is one of the parties to the conflict, and therefore cannot act as an intermediary in negotiations with Kyiv. “Currently, Europe is on the side of Ukraine in the conflict. Let’s not forget that European weapons are directly shooting at us and that cannot be ignored,” the spokesperson added.

Rutte highlighted during Thursday’s meeting with the Hungarian Prime Minister his country’s contribution to the Alliance’s deterrence and defense capabilities. According to the statement, he particularly appreciated Rutte at the meeting the operation of the Central European Multinational Division of NATO in Székesfehérvár and the support of the security of the Western Balkans on the part of Hungary, especially in the form of participation in the peacekeeping mission of the Alliance in Kosovo (KFOR).
