President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) defended this Saturday (30), in Rio de Janeiro, that the colors green and yellow should be used again by left-wing activists and not be associated with Bolsonarism.
“Green and yellow is something that the left will have to learn to use. We will have to, in this World Cup, wear green and yellow so as not to let Brazil’s colors be taken over by any fascist”, he said.
The speech took place during the launch of the free public streaming platform Tela Brasil, in Cidade das Artes, in Barra da Tijuca, an event attended by the First Lady, Janja Lula da Silva, ministers and local allies.
When thanking the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Cavaliere, for his presence, Lula highlighted his ally’s clothing and added: “You’re wearing green and yellow, but you have to say that you’re not a Bolsonarist.” He then expanded the message to the political field and said that “political culture” is needed for the population to get involved in choosing candidates, although he considered that it was an official act and could not deal with politics.
Lula also praised the work of the interim governor of Rio de Janeiro, Judge Ricardo Couto, in what he called “repairing the State”, and again defended that programs in the cultural area become State policies. In his speech, he criticized the dismantling of initiatives from previous PT administrations, such as Pontos de Cultura. “We created 4 thousand points. During their government, none were created. Now the country has 16 thousand Culture Points”, he stated.
“We need to transform everything we are doing into State policy. This cannot be government policy. Because, if it is just government policy, you know that anyone who comes in can take it away,” he said, before adding: “Removing things is very easy; fixing them is difficult, isn’t it, Eduardo?”, in reference to the former mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, who was attending the event.

The president indirectly mentioned the dispute for government of the State, without mentioning names, when he stated: “It is not a candidate, who you know who he is, who needs to be elected governor of Rio. It is you who has to be elected governor of Rio, because otherwise you know what happens in that State”. Paes should run for the position for Gilberto Kassab’s PSD, and should have state deputy Douglas Ruas (PL) as his opponent.
