Florentino Pérez denounced conspiracy to kill him, says radio

In attributed audio, Real Madrid president mentions pressure and power struggles related to the club

The president of Florentino Pérez, denounced the existence of a possible conspiracy to kill him in 2019. The statement is in a leaked audio attributed to the leader by the Catalan radio station this Monday (June 1, 2026).

The announcement comes on the eve of the election that will elect the new president of Real Madrid. Pérez, who has led the club since 2009, will face Enrique Riquelme on Sunday (June 7). It will be the first election to contest candidates since 2006.

The audio would have been taken from a statement that Pérez gave at the National Court of Spain. According to RAC 1the leader accused businessman Sánchez Galán of having hired the services of former police commissioner José Manuel Villarejo to spy on him.

There are 3 things they tell me repeatedly: 1st, that the best thing would be to make me disappear through an accident or a virus. I didn’t know it was possible to make someone disappear with a virus. Another thing they say is that you need to find the accounts that Florentino Pérez has outside of Spain, and that we would pay a lot of money for that. And the other, which is barbaric, is to give me a child”, says in the audio.

The case would be related to pressure and power struggles at the merengue club. Florentino said that Villarejo and several journalists wanted information against him to blackmail him. The leader denied having accepted any extortion.
