Market will have to adapt, says Lewandowski about PCC/CV case

The US classified the organizations as “terrorist”; according to the former minister, action will make Brazil Cost grow

The retired minister of the Federal Supreme Court and former Minister of Justice, Ricardo Lewandowski, said he was “quite worrying” the United States’ decision to classify the PCC and the Red Command as terrorist organizations. When speaking to journalists at the 14th Lisbon Forum on Monday (June 1, 2026), he highlighted the possible economic consequences of the action.

“The market has an extraordinary ability to adapt to changing circumstances. It is clear that the market will have to adapt, including our financial sector”he stated.

“What will happen is that the Brazil Cost will increase. And the Brazil Cost expanding, that is, the cost for companies to take measures to protect them against possible involvement with the group now called terrorist will ultimately lead to an increase in goods and harming the consumer themselves”he declared.

Lewandowski said he sees, in the private sector, a “concern” that goes beyond the defense of national sovereignty.

“When a country is officially classified by another power as a country that harbors terrorist organizations, it is clear that it becomes a kind of international pariah. Foreign investors are much more careful when investing in Brazil”he stated.

The former minister said that the concern also concerns Brazilian investors, “because they need to double their care with compliance, with insurance, with administrative measures”.

Lewandowski declared: “And even because they may, eventually, be involved with organized crime without knowing it, receiving contributions from some financial fund or purchasing goods from some sector that is outside the legality. So, this could have very serious repercussions for the economy.”
