UEFA said on 3 July 2024 it has opened an investigation into Turkish defender Merih Demiral for celebrating a goal in the team’s victory for 2-1 over Austria at Euro 2024 with a supposedly ultranationalist greeting. The tournament organizer said in a statement it was investigating the player for “inappropriate behavior” during the knockout match in Leipzig. The gesture, which Demiral made to the fans after scoring his second goal of the game, is associated with the Turkish ultranationalist group Gray Wolves.
Turkey announced this Tuesday (02) the squad list for the World Cup, which starts on June 11th and will be played in three countries: Canada, the United States and Mexico. THE Türkiye is in Group Dwith the United States, Paraguay and Australia.
