The parliamentary club Progresívne Slovensko (PS) will submit a proposal for an extraordinary meeting, at which it wants to recall the deputy chairman of the National Council (NR) of the SR Tibor Gašpar (Smer-SD). The reason is that he is a defendant in the Purgatory case. PS leader Michal Šimečka informed about this at Thursday’s press conference.
“It’s a proposal that we submitted some time ago, the coalition kicked it off for September, but I think it won’t wait even in the context of the beginning hearing of the Purgatory case, where Tibor Gašpar is accused of forming a criminal group, bribery and other serious crimes. This leads us to believe that this person has no business being the vice-chairman of the NR SR for one more day or one more meeting,” said Šimečka. He claims that they don’t want to take away the mandate he won in the elections.
Member of Parliament Zuzana Mesterová (PS) recalled that the proposal for the dismissal of Gašpar was submitted at the beginning of the May session of the parliament. According to her, however, the government coalition refused to include this proposal in the negotiations. “Tibor Gašpar is the face of the National Council, he lowers its credibility, lowers its trustworthiness, and we will not leave it like that,” she pointed out.
The Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) stated not long ago that the only reason for the attempt to recall the Deputy Chairman of the NR SR Gašpar is to cover up the case of Šimeček’s mother. He described the motion for an appeal as oppositional theater for which the opposition does not have enough votes.
The prime minister also said that if the opposition starts to recall Gašpar, the coalition will submit a proposal to recall the deputy speaker of the parliament for PS Martin Dubéci. Fico recalled that Dubéci led the presidential campaign of former candidate Radoslav Procházka and “used strange methods to finance it”. The prime minister also rejects the Purgatory case.
