CONSUMER OFFICE / DECO
“What precautions should I take to choose products that last longer, are repairable, can be recycled and help me save money?”
A DECO INFORMS…
Consuming consciously is an act of citizenship. By choosing better, you are protecting the environment, conserving resources, saving money and contributing to a fairer and more sustainable future. Avoid excessive consumption and waste for the health of your finances and the Planet.
DECO, through its project EVERYTHING YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO, wants to ensure that all citizens receive information, support, advice and, when necessary, help in resolving their consumption problems.
So that your choices are sustainable and not impulsive, DECO leaves you with some practical ideas for buying consciously:
- Why it is so important to consume sustainably:
Single-use or disposable products that are difficult to repair or inefficient generate a large amount of waste, increase pollution and, in the long term, end up being more expensive. Choosing durable, repairable, and recyclable items helps you care for the environment and promote more responsible business.
- Before purchasing, ask yourself:
Do I really need this product?
Is it durable and can it be repaired?
Are replacement parts available?
Is it energy efficient?
Are there second-hand or refurbished alternatives?
- Repair is a right:
Even outside the warranty period, products must be repairable.
It always requires a written quote and proof of the arrangement, as this service is guaranteed.
Repairing extends the life of products, reduces waste and saves money.
- Beware of greenwashing
Not all “green” advertising messages are true.
Be wary of vague words like “eco” or “natural” without proof, compare information and look for credible sources of information.
SAY DECO: Adopt the 5Rs of responsible consumption!
Refuse what is unnecessary
Reduce excessive consumption
Reuse whenever possible
Fix instead of replacing
Recycle correctly
Don’t forget that small gestures in everyday life make a big difference when everyone participates. Be a more active, active and participatory citizen. Follow the DECO project – EVERYTHING YOU HAVE.
This project is co-financed by the European Union, through the Single Market Program
