Reid Hoffman, billionaire co-founder of the networking site LinkedIn, has decided not to run for re-election to Microsoft’s board of directors at its 2026 annual shareholder meeting, the software giant said in a statement on Friday.
Hoffman, who has been a member of the board since 2017, will remain on the board until the meeting. Its decision was not the result of any disagreement with executives on policy or operations-related issues, Microsoft said.
In 2016, he sold LinkedIn to Microsoft for $26.2 billion, in what was, at the time, the largest transaction in the technology giant’s history. Since then, the social media platform has grown to more than 1.3 billion members.
