The Italian pilot Kimi Antonellifrom Mercedes, will leave the pole position at the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, scoring the best time in the classification held this Saturday (6) on the streets of the Principality.
Championship leader, Antonelli won his fourth pole in six GPS this season surpassing the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and the British Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari).
“It’s one of those laps that we can call ‘magic’. I managed to get everything right and it was incredible. It was a tough battle with Max [Verstappen]. Thanks to the whole team, because yesterday [sexta-feira] we were a little below the pace, today we managed to find the tenths we were missing”, commented the 19 year old Italian.
Antonelli, who was thrilled on the radio when he found out that he would start from pole position, pulled a rabbit out of his hat and went 43 thousandths of a second faster than Versttappen.
Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) had to settle for fourth place before making a mistake on his final attempt.
Fifth was Frenchman Isack Hadjar (Red Bull), who confirmed his recovery after suffering an accident in free practice on Friday, arriving ahead of Briton George Russell (Mercedes), who once again disappointed.
The McLarens of Australian Oscar Piastri and current world champion, British Lando Norris, finished seventh and eighth, respectively, ahead of Frenchman Pierre Gasly (Alpine) and New Zealander Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls), who completed the Top 10.
Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto (Audi) finished in 16th place, after hitting the guard rail while trying to get around the Nouvelle Chicane at the end of Q1.
