Iran denounces ‘ceasefire violation’ after US attacks

Iran denounced, this Saturday, 6, American night attacks against radar and coastal surveillance installations in the Gulf and described them as a “flagrant violation of the ceasefire” in force since April 8.

This is “a military aggression against the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran”, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement, in which it condemned “the hostile and provocative behavior of the American regime”.

Iran attacks

The statement was released after the US Army said it shot down Iranian ballistic missiles and drones towards the Strait of Hormuz and Arab allies in the Gulf. Washington also admitted to attacking Tehran’s surveillance radars.

Despite the American interception, Iran managed to attack Gulf countries in recent days, such as Kuwait and Bahrain.

The Gulf country’s Foreign Ministry called the attacks a “serious escalation” and a “flagrant violation of its sovereignty.”

The US Central Command reported on social media on Friday night, the 5th, that Iran fired seven ballistic missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain. American forces intercepted six of the missiles and the seventh failed to hit its target. The military said there were no reports of injuries among U.S. service members.

Kuwait’s armed forces said they were intercepting missiles and drones attacking the country, while Bahrain sounded air warning sirens and told residents to move to the nearest safe location and follow official instructions.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said it targeted the Ali Al Salem air base, which houses American forces in Kuwait, and the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet in the small Gulf island nation of Bahrain, according to state news agency IRNA.

Block

The US military is imposing a blockade on Iranian ports in response to Tehran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial corridor for global oil and natural gas shipments.

Iran’s ability to control the strategic crossing has sent energy prices soaring and created political problems for President Donald Trump’s Republican Party ahead of midterm elections.

Negotiations for a more comprehensive agreement that would definitively end the war are stalled.
