Brazil has a comparative advantage in the search for decarbonization, says Alckmin

With the cost of aviation fuel still high and prices volatile, the search for solutions to decarbonize the sector has grown and Brazil has a unique comparative advantage in this debate, declared this Sunday (7) vice-president Geraldo Alckmin, in a speech at the 82nd annual assembly of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which is taking place in Rio de Janeiro.

“We are one of the largest producers of biofuels in the world, our water and electricity, our biodiversity and our research capacity put Brazil in a privileged position to lead the development and production of SAF”, he stated, citing sustainable aviation fuel, a topic that has been addressed in several panels at the event.

Alckmin also took the opportunity to list government actions in recent years to help the growth of the sector in Brazil, such as works on 42 airports in 2024 and investments to integrate 102 regional airports into existing concession contracts.

Brazil has a comparative advantage in the search for decarbonization, says Alckmin

He also cited the reductions in PIS and Cofins rates on regular passenger transport and the progressive reduction in the tax on aircraft leasing operations, a measure that according to the vice-president generated savings of hundreds of millions of reais for the sector. “President Lula’s government understands aviation as a State policy,” he said.
