Trump abandons TV interview after heated clash with journalist

United States President Donald Trump abruptly ended an interview with the American broadcaster NBC News after a heated argument with host Kristen Welker. The interview was recorded on Friday and shown this Sunday (7).

The conversation covered topics such as the war with Iran, a fund to compensate victims of what Trump calls the government’s “armament” against opponents, the economy and the recent primary elections in California.

The flashpoint came when Welker pressed Trump on his claims of irregularities in the vote count in the Californian state’s primaries. Trump reiterated his claim, unsupported by evidence, that the 2020 election was rigged and pointed to California’s multi-day counting process as evidence of cheating. When asked if he had evidence, Trump responded: “All I have to do is look.”

Tensions escalated when Trump began directly attacking the broadcaster. “Your elections in this country are like those in a third world country. You are a biased, corrupt network. I’m sorry. Let’s wrap this up because we’ve had enough. Thank you, honey. Have fun,” Trump said as he concluded his appearance.

Welker asked him to stay, saying he had traveled to Wisconsin and stood in the rain for an hour during the recording, but Trump responded that he had given enough time and left.
