Pope Leo XIV gave a speech this Monday (8) to politicians in the Spanish Parliament. On the occasion, he insisted that human life be defended “from conception to natural death, in all circumstances of its existence”.
“Can a community that casts the unborn child, the elderly, the sick, those who suffer in silence or those who depend entirely on the care of others into the shadows, be considered fully fair?”, he commented.
Pedro Sánchez’s government expanded abortion rights and legalized it in 2021.
Leão also spoke about , classifying the conflict as a “painful defeat” of the negotiations, lamenting that violence and polarization have plunged the world into a “deep” crisis.
The pontiff’s speech emphasized that “ethical responsibility” and that countries resolve their disputes through international law.
