21-year-old woman died after jumping in a sporting activity on the Skeleton Bridge; city hall says the location is federal responsibility and that it will sue the government
The death of a 21-year-old girl during a rope jumping activity, an extreme sport that involves jumping from great heights while attached to ropes, led to the arrest of 6 people in Limeira, in the interior of São Paulo. The information was released by Limeira City Hall in an official note this Saturday (June 13, 2026).
According to the municipal administration, the death occurred during an activity promoted by a private company on Ponte do Esqueleto. The city hall states, based on information from the Military Police, that the company “didn’t tie it” the rope on the young woman before the jump.
Samu was called and found cardiopulmonary arrest and death at the scene. The body was sent to the IML (Legal Medical Institute). After the incident, the PM detained 6 people linked to the organization of the activity.
LIMEIRA WILL SUE GOVERNMENT
In a statement, Limeira City Hall informed that it will sue the federal government in court for failure to act in relation to the Skeletor Bridge. According to the municipal administration, since the beginning of 2025, administrative measures were adopted and charges were made to federal agencies responsible for the area.
The city hall states that the responsibility for inspection, maintenance and access control to the bridge is “exclusively” from the federal government. It also says that the municipal administration and the Chamber of Limeira, on the initiative of councilor Bruna Magalhães, had already sent letters demanding security measures, but that no concrete measures were adopted.
“In addition to the circumstances that led to the young woman’s death, it is necessary to determine responsibility for the lack of access control to a federal area that, for years, has presented known risks and continues to lack the necessary protective measures.”, said the mayor of the municipality, Murilo Félix (Podemos – SP).
The city hall stated that it will support the Civil Police in the investigations and expressed solidarity with the victim’s family and friends.
