Mette-Marit’s son was convicted of raping two women and also of domestic violence against an ex-girlfriend. Marius Borg Høiby was also acquitted of two other rape charges.
Marius Borg Høiby29 years old, son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, was sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of two rapes and several other crimes by the Oslo District Court.
The verdict was handed down this Monday by a panel of three judges, who found Høiby guilty of raping two womenbut acquitted him of two other rape charges.
Although she grew up alongside members of the Norwegian royal family, after her mother married Crown Prince Haakon when he was four, Høiby does not hold a royal title nor does he perform official royal duties.
Høiby was not physically present in court when the sentence was handed down, participating in the session via video conference. The accusation had requested a sentence of seven years and seven monthswhile defense lawyers argued for a substantially lower sentence of 18 months. The defense maintains the right to appeal.
According to the court, Høiby was convicted of raping a woman at the Skaugum estate, home of the Crown Prince and Crown Princess, in 2018, and another woman in Oslo in 2024. The judges concluded that the victims were not in a position to consent due to are sleeping or incapacitated I don’t moment two attacks.
The court also convicted Høiby of domestic violence against your ex-girlfriend and Norwegian influencer Nora Haukland, as well as several other crimes involving abusive and reckless behavior against another woman.
However, judges acquitted him of two separate rape charges. These cases involved women he met at a hotel in Oslo in November 2024 and while on vacation in Norway’s Lofoten Islands in 2023.
The wider case involved allegations from six women. Only one of the complainants appeared in court to hear the verdict. In one of the convictions, the prosecution argued that a woman had been raped while sleeping after a party in Oslo in March 2024. The court accepted the evidence, including videos recorded by Høiby, and concluded that the victim was incapable of resisting.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered Høiby paid a total of 640 000 Norwegian kroner (approximately 57,000 euros) in compensation to four of the women involved in the case.
The verdict comes as Crown Princess Mette-Marit continues to battle pulmonary fibrosis, a serious lung disease. Høiby’s lawyers had repeatedly requested his release so he could spend time with his mother, who recently joined the waiting list for a lung transplant. After Monday’s decision, the defense reiterated its request for release pending the judgment of a possible appeal.
