The goal of the 14-point memorandum, the text of which was released by Trump administration officials on Wednesday, is achieve “an immediate and permanent end to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon”. By signing it, the parties undertake to “respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of the other party”. Negotiations to reach a final agreement will begin within 60 days, although this deadline could be extended by mutual consensus. Within 30 days, the United States is to end its naval blockade of Iranian ports and reduce its military presence in the region to pre-conflict levels.
