Trump’s signing of the deal was denied by a US official after the Axios news site reported on Wednesday that this occurred during Trump’s dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron in the Palace of Versailles near Paris, where Trump moved after the G7 leaders’ summit. The portal Axios referred to two unnamed sources from the USA.
“I can confirm the signature,” a White House official said when asked about reports that Trump personally signed a copy of the document during dinner with Macron in Versailles, according to AFP.
The Memorandum of Understanding with Iran, which aims to end the war in the Middle East and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, they were originally supposed to officially sign on Friday during a ceremony in Switzerland, although both parties signed it electronically on Sunday.
The speaker of the parliament and chief negotiator Mohammad Báker Kálibáf was originally supposed to participate in the Friday ceremony for the Iranian side, and vice president JD Vance for the American side. However, in the meantime, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the memorandum could be signed by President Donald Trump on behalf of the US and by President Masoud Pezeshkiyan on behalf of Iran.

The Iranian side confirmed the signing of the so-called memorandum of understanding with the USA by the head of state Masúd Pezeškiján shortly after an unnamed White House official announced that US President Donald Trump had personally signed the document. “The text of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has been finalized with the signatures of the presidents – now is the time to test the implementation of this agreement,” declared Bakají, who was quoted by the Iranian state news agency IRNA.
The goal of the 14-point memorandum, the text of which was released by Trump administration officials on Wednesday, is achieve “an immediate and permanent end to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon”. By signing it, the parties undertake to “respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of the other party”. Negotiations to reach a final agreement will begin within 60 days, although this deadline could be extended by mutual consensus. Within 30 days, the United States is to end its naval blockade of Iranian ports and reduce its military presence in the region to pre-conflict levels.
