President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva mocked this Friday (19) striker Neymar’s participation in the World Cup. The PT member’s speech occurred after he praised the player Marta and asked a boy who would be a good player in the country today. Upon hearing the Santos striker’s response, the president stated that he “isn’t even playing”.
“I saw something yesterday on the internet, that Neymar is the first home office in the world,” said Lula, causing laughter from supporters at an investment announcement event at a hospital in Belo Horizonte. Afterwards, the PT member joked about the possibility of a selection created by Artificial Intelligence, “with ten Pelés”.
Neymar has not yet made his debut in the competition for the national team and was not part of the delegation that traveled to Philadelphia, the venue for the match against Haiti, this Friday (19).
The CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) informed that the number 10 will stay in New Jersey to optimize the final phase of his recovery process, making use of the structures of The Ridge hotel and the CT in Columbia Park.
This Thursday (18) the maximum period of three weeks, stipulated by the Brazilian team’s medical department, for recovery from the injury to his right calf ended.
His participation in activities on the field showed signs of his evolution, but he still doesn’t have the rhythm of the game, leaving him out of the duel that, theoretically, is the easiest for Brazil in the first phase of the World Cup.
On Monday (15), Neymar had undergone new tests at a clinic in the New Jersey region to assess the stage of his recovery. According to the CBF, the tests were scheduled and were not motivated by any complications.
Before the World Cup, he had not appeared in any of Carlo Ancelotti’s other squads. His name only appeared on the coach’s final list, announced on May 18.
The previous day, in a match for Santos, in the Brazilian Championship, the player suffered a new injury, grade 2. When he presented himself to the team, he underwent magnetic resonance imaging tests, which indicated a greater severity than that initially reported by the São Paulo club.
Lula is in Belo Horizonte (MG), where he participates in the announcement of investments of R$89.3 million for Hospital Luxemburgo, which has become a 100% SUS unit. The hospital, part of the Mário Penna Institute, is a reference in oncology in Minas Gerais.
After the event this morning in the capital of Minas Gerais, Lula will go to Divinópolis in the afternoon, for the inauguration of a regional hospital.
