The Prime Minister’s promise to fight
On Friday, Starmer reaffirmed his pledge to fight attempts to oust him as Labor leader. He was reacting to the success of his party colleague Andy Burnham, who won a key by-election and thus secured a seat in the lower house of parliament.
Burnham has previously indicated an interest in competing with Starmer for the post of party leader and prime minister if he wins the election.

Starmer came to power in July 2024 promising to end years of chaos in British politics. However, he caused the displeasure of the voters with several changes in his positions and a series of controversies. This was also reflected in the results of the May municipal elections, in which the Labor Party suffered a crushing defeat. It lost more than 1,400 mandates and lost control over several local governments.
