John Goodman belongs to the prominent actors of Hollywood. After years of struggling with weight and addictions, he decided to change his lifestyle and lost almost 90 kg. The Mediterranean diet played a key role in his transformation. The actor completely eliminated sugar, limited red meat and processed foods.
In his heaviest period, he weighed almost 180 kg. “Every spring I lost about 27 kg, but then I got too fond of beer,” he mentioned on Late Night with David Letterman about the cycle of losing weight and returning to old habits. The yo-yo effect was common for him, he admitted that he managed to lose 27 kg, but then gained it all back.
The turning point came when, under the supervision of coach Mackie Shilstone, he decided on a radical change. His diet began to consist of a large amount of vegetables, fruits, fish, legumes, whole grain products and olive oil. “It was just about portion control and knowing I didn’t need it,” he told People magazine.
In addition to diet, Goodman engaged in regular physical activity – six training sessions a week, lots of walking, dog walks and recreational boxing. “I’m sweating, but I’m not overdoing it,” he said, emphasizing that the exercise should be intense, but not extreme. However, the real breakthrough was the complete omission of alcohol in 2007. “It was 30 years of illness that affected everyone around me. Each drink was more and more devastating. It was a matter of life and death. I had to stop.” he admitted in an interview with The Guardian.
Goodman openly says that his problems with food and alcohol were linked. “Both habits were an effort to fill a void that nothing but goodness can fill.” he admitted in an interview with ABC News. You can find his PHOTO in the gallery.
