The president and his government are making moves to “close” the issue, since as he revealed in a telephone interview he gave to the NBC News television network, he spoke today “with” and asked to agree to a ceasefire with the Shia-backed Hezbollah organization.
As he stated during his communication, his main argument was: “Sometimes you have to calm down and use your head”. The American media pay particular attention to the fact that the US president avoided clarifying whether he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
New round of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon next week
At the same time, the State Department announced that the next round of talks between Lebanon and Israel will take place in Washington from June 23 to 25, after a telephone conversation between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.
According to a statement from State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott, Rubio reiterated the need to disarm Hezbollah and reaffirmed the United States’ support for the Lebanese government’s efforts to create a fully sovereign Lebanese state that will be at peace with all its neighbors.
The communication came amid diplomatic efforts to stabilize the situation on the Israel-Lebanese border and implement the recent ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
Trump at Camp David with talks with Iran in the air
The moves come at a critical time for Trump’s Middle East policy, as the Iran memorandum may be signed, but talks on a full deal have yet to begin, having been postponed until later.
In this context, it became known that the president of the USA will go to Camp David during the weekend, which is not usual. As experts on such matters point out, this is only the second time he has moved to the presidential vacation home in Maryland since he returned to the White House, since he usually prefers to visit Mar-a-lago in Florida.
A White House official revealed that during his stay there, Trump will have various “policy meetings” and that his family will follow him on the occasion of the celebration of Father’s Day on Sunday.
The last time Trump visited Camp David, Maryland, was in June 2025, when he met with military officials and his foreign policy advisers and discussed the situation in Iran, the war in Gaza and protests against immigration police in California. A planned Cabinet meeting at Camp David in May was eventually held at the White House because the weather service was predicting bad weather in the area.
Regarding the postponement of the start of the negotiations, however, the messages are mixed, since one day earlier Trump made tough statements about what is going to happen with Iran, while for his part, the representative of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Bagaei, claimed that preparations are underway to start bilateral talks on the final agreement within the next few days.
