PSB leader wants France candidate in SP against Tarcísio and Haddad

Jonas Donizette says that the former minister’s presence in the election helps the party to elect more deputies; PT rejects movement and expectations are that Lula will mediate the situation

The leader of the PSB in the Chamber, deputy (SP), defends the candidacy of (PSB) for the government of São Paulo. The congressman assesses that the presence of the former governor increases the possibility that the state election will not be defined in the 1st round.

“I have always defended our own candidacy here in São Paulo. It is important for us to have our party’s platform here. It is important for us to be able, by voting for the party, to also have a greater number of deputies. The same logic that the PT uses, I think it works for us too”declares to Poder360.

The former mayor of Campinas states that France has the necessary requirements to enter the dispute. “He was once governor, has knowledge especially in the interior and is scoring well in the polls. It’s a possibility that cannot be thrown away”it says.

The governor (Republicans) will run for re-election and leads the polls. O deputy (Missão-SP) and the former mayor of Santo André (SP), (PSDB), withdrew from running for office.

For Donizette, this opens up space for France’s eventual candidacy. “It was expected that these parties would withdraw their candidacy. take into account now, with this new scenario, at least one more candidacy there. We are, at this moment, the party that is able to launch a candidate”he states.

According to the congressman, the new scenario makes the election look like a 2nd round even in the 1st. “It’s an election, for example, where if Tarcísio doesn’t want to go to a debate, if one of the two doesn’t want to go, there’s no debate”it says.

LULA FACTOR

The election in São Paulo is seen as crucial for the campaign for the re-election of the president (PT). In the State alone, PT received 4.3 million more votes in 2022 than in 2018, when Haddad was the party’s candidate for Planalto.

França still presents itself as a pre-candidate for the Senate, seeking to compete with the PT pre-candidate for government, . However, the former Minister of Entrepreneurship is also willing to fill the PT member’s deputy position.

Jonas Donizette says that Lula must mediate the situation: “Márcio will not take this issue to the ultimate consequences. He will put his name forward and fulfill the party’s wishes, but I think that President Lula’s vision is now more important than ever. If he arrives and calls Márcio and says that a candidacy is important, I think they would understand”.

The expectation is that Lula will receive Haddad and França for a conversation this Wednesday (June 24, 2026).

CONVERSATION AND UNCOMFORT

Márcio França spoke on Friday (June 19) with the federal deputy president of the PT in São Paulo. The former governor expressed his desire to put his name forward to run for Palácio dos Bandeirantes and help provoke a 2nd round.

On Saturday (June 20), members of the PSB endorsed in plenary the desire for their own candidacy for government. The reaction of PT leaders to the movement in France caused discomfort within the party. The national vice-president of the PT and federal deputy (PT-SP) called it “hobby horse” this possibility.

“PSB’s internal discussion has to be respected. The conventions will only take place from the 20th of July, after the World Cup is over. So, this is the moment that has to be measured technically, with research, whether it is really a viable solution”adds Donizette.
