New proposal from the ÖVP, but no approach to military service yet

There is a new proposal from the ÖVP. Instead of eight months of military service plus two months of militia exercises, as the People’s Party has previously demanded, it is now proposing a phased model, the 6+100 model. This would mean that the six months of compulsory military service would remain, but this would then be followed by a total of 100 days of militia exercises. Since two months of militia exercises should be completed in one go, the overall result is actually back to the original ÖVP proposal. This is based on the recommendation of the Military Service Commission, which presented various models in January and prioritized one of them.
