The Federal Government will launch, in the coming days, a notice of debt renegotiation for individual microentrepreneurs (MEI)e micro and small businesses. The measure offers discounts of up to 70% on the amount of debts and possibility of installments in up to 145 months. The target audience are 3.5 million taxpayers with debts of up to R$20 thousand.
According to the attorney general of the National Treasury (PGFN), Anelize Almeida, the government hopes to negotiate a amount of R$ 12.4 billion. In an interview with Broadcast, Grupo Estado’s real-time news system, the prosecutor stated that there was an increase in MEIs registered in active debt due to lack of information or financial conditions. She highlighted that the debts, although smaller compared to the Union’s total stock, are relevant to the entrepreneurs’ livelihood.
“We noticed a growing increase in MEIs registered in active debt, either because they didn’t even know they had to pay, or because they couldn’t afford it. These are debts with a very small ticket, if you compare it to the stock of active debt, but they are important debts for that person”, said Anelize.
The granting of the benefit will depend on a individualized analysis of each taxpayer. According to the prosecutor, the maximum discount and the longest installment period will not be automatically applied to all interested parties. The objective of the analysis is adapt conditions to payment capacityaiming to reduce the risk of future default.
