Milei's chief of staff ends up resigning after months of investigation for illicit enrichment

The Argentine chief of staff, Manuel Adorni, resigned this Saturday after four months of controversy over the increase in his assets since he entered the Government of the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, something that motivated an investigation for illicit enrichment.

The Argentine politician, in a letter addressed to President Milei, has attributed his decision to “the endless media attacks” and has assured that he will “close this cycle” to protect himself and his family.

“Dear president (…) Thank you for accepting my resignation from office this time (…) The media operations have gone to the extreme, not only against me, but against my wife, my small children, my friends, my family and even my neighbors and relatives,” he lamented in a statement in the form of a letter published on his social networks.

In this way, the official has filled the President with praise, dedicating special thanks to his wife, Karina Milei, and has firmly defended his administration by ensuring that no accusation of corruption weighs on his shoulders. Likewise, he has clarified that the decision to leave office did not respond to the Argentine leader’s desire to expel him.

“The lies that have been told were of the most varied: trips that never existed, astronomical and sumptuous expenses, non-existent and false contracts of my wife with the State or with public companies, mansions and luxurious cars, “crypto farms” operated in complicity with the Presidential Custody, nepotism, personal expenses paid with public funds, the existence of an alleged pendrive “full of dollars”, companies in Uruguay, cosmetic surgeries worth thousands of dollars, and dozens of other falsehoods,” he lamented.

Adorni did not want to be self-critical and has focused his message on the “hope” that the ultraconservative leader represents and the “future” of Argentina. “There is a limit to cruelty and I have discovered mine. We have given everything from a strictly work perspective, but also from a family and spiritual perspective. Maybe it simply happens that ordinary people are not allowed to be in these places. Or maybe yes: you are the only hope for Argentina,” he declared.

Adorni’s last hours

Adorni has held out in office thanks to Milei’s presidential support in recent months. In fact, on Friday morning, during his visit to Spain, the president assured that he would only dismiss his chief of staff if Justice certified his guilt in acts of corruption.

However, the situation would have been billed “definitely“This week with the general secretary, Karina Milei, actively operating in the Casa Rosada, the certainty was established that Adorni’s hours were numbered, according to the newspaper ‘La Nación’.

The former chief of staff is under judicial scrutiny for alleged illicit enrichment in relation to the purchase of an apartment and a home in Buenos Aires, properties that he recently declared once the case reached the media.

In fact, on June 10, Adorni admitted to having hidden half a million dollars from, according to his version, investments prior to his arrival in the Government, which is why he requested to benefit from the tax amnesty promoted by the Argentine Executive itself.

Added to this is an investigation into alleged influence peddling linked to contracts between public television and the production company of his friend, the businessman and journalist Marcelo Grandio, as well as to awards between state companies and the consulting firm of his wife, Bettina Angeletti.
