In a very sad turn of events, Venezuelan Premier League club Deportivo La Guaira have confirmed the tragic death of Argentina defender Lucas Trejo’s wife and two children following the recent earthquakes in Venezuela. A family was reported missing after their apartment building collapsed during the tremors, with rescue teams later confirming the heartbreaking news.
Trejo was absent as he was in Caracas with his club Maritimo preparing for an upcoming match. Trej’s family was in Playa Grande, one of the coastal areas hardest hit by the twin earthquakes, when the apartment building they were living in collapsed. The veteran Argentina defender launched a desperate search for his wife and children, involving relatives, local volunteers and professional rescue teams, until the tragic news was confirmed.
Before the tragic news was confirmed, Trejo publicly appealed for help in finding information about the whereabouts or possible survival of his family. “Our house in Playa Grande collapsed. I don’t know anything about my family. Please pray for them and share this news if anyone saw them. I want to believe they weren’t there. Please pray for my family.” wrote Trejo on Instagram.
