According to data from , five people lost their lives in the last twenty-four hours in , due to the strong wave that is affecting a large part of Europe.
Today, 25 major Italian cities are on “red”, the highest level of alert due to particularly high temperatures. This number is expected to remain unchanged tomorrow.
However, from Wednesday afternoon, according to weather forecasts, heavy rain is expected in many areas of northern Italy, which will be accompanied by hail in some places. On Thursday, severe weather is also predicted in central Italy.
“Climate shelters” throughout Italy
At the same time, many municipalities in the country have decided to keep municipal museums open and with free admission until the end of the extreme heat wave. Together with municipal gymnasiums and cultural centers, they act as “climate shelters”, offering safe and cool spaces to residents and tourists.
According to the Italian press, it is deemed necessary to take immediate measures for public daycare centers as well. As it was found, many of them do not have an air conditioning system, as a result of which the temperature in the interior spaces has exceeded 36 degrees Celsius in recent days.
Every day with a “new record” Slovakia
Just a day after Slovakia was “baked” to 41 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature ever recorded in the country, the record was broken after thermometers showed 41.3 degrees Celsius today, according to the meteorological service.
In Kamenice nad Chronom, in southern Slovakia, near the border with Hungary, the temperature reached 41.3 degrees, said the representative of the Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU), Ivan Garkar, confirming that this was a “new record”.
