PF targets Sóstenes’ advisors on suspicion of misuse of parliamentary quota

The Federal Police (PF) launched, this Wednesday (1st), the third phase of Operation Rent a Car, called Galho Fraco II, which aims to advisors to federal deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ). The investigation finds a alleged scheme to divert resources from the parliamentary quota of the Chamber of Deputies through a car rental company suspected of issue fictitious invoices.

The judicial measures were authorized by Minister Flávio Dino, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), and are complied with in the Federal District, Goiás and Minas Gerais. The objective is to collect and preserve evidence, according to the PF. All targets are lawyers.

“The investigations point to evidence of a possible scheme involving public agents, private individuals and legal entities allegedly used to give the appearance of legality to the movement of public resources. There is also evidence of possible attempts to conceal or alter evidence, which could constitute procedural fraud”, informed the PF.

In the previous phase of the operation, the PF also carried out search and seizure warrants against the deputy Carlos Jordy (RJ). At the time, he denied any involvement in irregularities.

A report from Estadão revealed that the rental company under investigation received R$915,000 in funds from the parliamentary quota. In the first phase of the investigation, the PF concentrated its investigations on parliamentarians’ advisors and gathered information about the contracts. As the investigations progressed, the next stage began to directly affect the two deputies.
