Arrested soldier asks to be visited again after sister tries to take panettone with electronics

The defense of Lieutenant Colonel Rodrigo Bezerra Azevedo asked Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), to resume visits to the soldier in prison.

Moraes suspended visits on Monday (30), after the officer’s sister tried to enter the unit where he is held carrying

Inside the package there was a headset, a USB cable and a memory card. The equipment was intercepted by soldiers from the Army Police Battalion, in Brasília.

According to lawyers, Azevedo was unaware of his sister’s attempt. “The conduct of the aforementioned visitor was carried out in isolation and without any relationship with the custodian and other family members, a fact that must be considered for the correct analysis of the case”, they stated.

“It is clear that the custodian Rodrigo Bezerra de Azevedo did not have any participation, contribution or incentive related to his sister’s conduct,” said the defense. “Furthermore, there are no elements that indicate that the objects in question were intended for the use of the custodian or that the custodian was aware of such an act.”

The lawyers asked Moraes to ban visits only from the soldier’s sister, maintaining the possibility of other family members coming to see him in prison.

Azevedo is one of those indicted by the Federal Police on suspicion of participating in the alleged coup attempt to prevent the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

Hidden electronics

Rodrigo Bezerra Azevedo has been preventively detained at the Army Police Battalion, in Brasília, since December 5th.

Last Saturday (28), Dhebora Bezerra de Azevedo (sister of the soldier), tried to make a visit taking a panettone with electronic items inside the packaging.

According to a letter from the Planalto Military Command, an alarm was triggered when the panettone passed through the metal detector. Questioned at the time, the lieutenant colonel’s sister said that the box had a headphone jack.

“After opening the panettone box for verification purposes, it was found that inside it there was a headphone, a USB cable and a memory card”, says a letter signed by General Ricardo Carmona, military commander of Planalto.

The material was then seized and Dhebora was prevented from continuing with the visit to her brother.

The letter informs that the Planalto Command suspended the sister’s visitation rights, but does not detail whether other measures were taken in relation to her. The woman signed the terms of seizure of the materials.
