US authorities identified the suspect in the attack in New Orleans as Shamsud Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old man.
Little is known, for now, about his identity. The person advances that it is a man with North American nationalitybut the only official information given by the authorities is the name and age of the suspect, who was shot.
Shamsud Din Jabbar was driving the pickup truck that plowed into a crowd in a neighborhood in New Orleans this morning. After that, got out of the vehicle and started shooting about several people. At least 10 people died and more than 30 were injured.
The FBI is investigating this attack “as a possible act of terrorism”.
Also telling CNN International, two police sources reported that the suspect was carrying a Daesh flag at the time of the attack.
“The FBI is the lead investigative agency and we are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism,” the official source said.
Although the motive for the attack is still unclear, the authorities are certain that it was an intentional act.
Shamsud Din Jabbar was “strongly determined to cause carnage”, said a police commissioner.
