The Minister of Health, Manuel Pizarro
“PS has already decided”, guarantees Luís Marques Mendes. Fernando Araújo, former executive director of the National Health Service, will be number two.
After losing twice to the independent movement led by Rui Moreira, in 2013 and 2017, deputy Manuel Pizarro is preparing once again to be the Socialist Party (PS) candidate for president of the Porto City Council.
“From what I found out, the PS has not yet formalized it, but has already decided. The candidate for president of the Chamber it will be Manuel Pizarro“, this Sunday Luís Marques Mendes, in his opinion space on SIC.
This time, Pizarro would enter the race without competition from the current mayor of Porto Alegre, Rui Moreira, who is prevented from running for re-election to the municipality by the term limits law.
The former executive director of the National Health Service, Fernando Araújowill be the “number two” on the list, after leaving his position at the SNS at the end of April 2023.

After his two unsuccessful attempts at the Porto Chamber, in which he obtained 22.7% of the votes in 2013 and 28.6% in 2017, Pizarro was elected MEP for the PS in 2019. In September 2022, he took on the role of Minister of Health , replacing Marta Temido, a role she held until April this year.
