The municipality of Portimão received this Thursday, the 30th, for the second time in a row, the Voluntary Autarchy GalalD 2024, promoted by the António Sérgio cooperative for the social economy (cases) to distinguish the work developed by local authorities in promoting the practice of volunteering , in a ceremony held at the Thalia Theater in Lisbon, the municipality said in a statement.
Portimão was again the only municipality south of the Tagus to be distinguished in the second edition of the award, by practices, dynamics and instruments created and developed for volunteering, as is the case of the VI Volunteer and Associativism Meeting ”promoted in March 2024; the training action of the training of the monitors that are part of the free time occupation program of young Portimonenses within the “Summer Vacation” project; The celebrations of International Volunteer Day, with emphasis on the Municipal Volunteer Prize, as well as the European Body Solidarity Body Program to take place, in addition to the Solidarity Transport Volunteering Project 65+ evolutionary in the area of aging.
The Voluntary Autarchy award, besides having as its central objective to distinguish and publicly recognize the work of the municipalities, also aims to enhance a sharing network, which privileges the monitoring, recognition and dissemination of good practices that can be assumed and replicated by other territories.
At the ceremony, which was attended by the Secretary of State for Social Security, Jorge Campino, in addition to the municipality of Portimão were also distinguished by the practices, dynamics and instruments created and developed for volunteering, the municipalities of Amarante, Arouca, Barreiro, Braga, Cascais, Guimarães, Loures, Lousada, Mafra, Maia, Matosinhos, Mourão, Ourém, Paços de Ferreira, Walls, Póvoa de Varzim, São João da Madeira, Santa Maria da Feira, Torres Novas, Trofa, Vila Nova de Gaia, Vila Verde and Viseu and the parishes of Loures and S. Pedro Fins (Maia). Two honorable mentions were also attributed, for good practices, to the municipality of Loures and to São João da Madeira.
