US Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, 70, is expected to remain in office despite pressure from Democrats for her to resign before (Republican Party), on January 20, 2025.
Party supporters want to speed up the judge’s departure so that the replacement can be defined by current President Joe Biden. The idea is to prevent Trump from having another name on the Court. The North American Constitution does not establish an age limit for compulsory retirement, as is the case in Brazil.
Sotomayor was nominated by Barack Obama (Democratic Party) in 2009 and is the oldest among the Court’s 3 progressive judges. The Supreme Court is made up of 9 judges, 6 of which are appointed by Republican governments. Of these, half were appointed by Trump during his first term (2017-2021).

A similar case occurred with Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg during the Obama administration. The judge also came under pressure from Democrats, but refused to leave her position. She, when Donald Trump was in charge of the White House.
