PF arrests 8/1 convict who was on the run in Argentina

The Federal Police confirmed this Monday (11) that they arrested a man convicted by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) for participating in the acts of January 8, 2023. According to the authority, the arrest took place in Cascavel (PR).

The man, whose identity was not revealed, would have traveled to Argentina in April and returned to Brazil. He was located by the city’s security forces and detained on Saturday afternoon (9).

“A fugitive since April this year, when he fled to Argentina, the man returned to Brazil and was located by security forces in Cascavel. The action had the support of the Cascavel Municipal Guard”, said the PF in a statement.

According to information obtained by RPCaffiliate of TV Globo in Paraná, the man was identified as Moacir José dos Santos, a resident of the city of Paraná and who was sentenced in October last year to 17 years in prison.

Investigations indicate that he participated in the invasion of the Palácio do Planalto and had genetic material found in objects destroyed at the site. On his cell phone seized by the Federal Police, videos and photos were found of acts of vandalism at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic.

The investigation also points out that Moacir José dos Santos traveled to Brasília in a chartered bus with more than 60 people, but his defense claims that he entered the Planalto Palace only to protect himself from the stun bombs launched by the Military Police there. day.

The man was convicted of the crimes of criminal association, violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, attempted coup d’état, qualified damage through violence and serious threat to the Union’s assets and deterioration of listed assets.
