Operations in Kursk aim to recover lost territories and displace Ukrainian forces
Russia has intensified its military operations to retake the western region of Kursk, on the border with Ukraine, said the head of the Ukrainian army, Oleksandr Syrskyi, this Monday (11.Nov.2024).

Moscow’s foray to retake Kursk comes just one day after the US newspaper report on the mobilization of 50,000 Russian troops, including North Korean troops, for a cross-border attack.

On November 2, the foreign ministers of North Korea, Choe Son Hui, and Russia, Sergei Lavrov, reinforced the need to implement the agreements signed between the countries to provide military assistance. They met in Moscow, the Russian capital.
Ukrainian incursion
In August 2022, Ukraine’s incursion into Kursk marked a significant offensive into Russian territory in response to the Russian invasion 6 months earlier. Russia, in turn, advanced slowly into eastern Ukraine, capturing villages in the Donbass region.
Russian President Vladimir Putin promised retaliation against Ukraine for the invasion of Kursk, close to the border between the countries.
Kiev already controlled an area of more than 1,000 km² in Kursk. Around 121,000 people had to be evacuated from the region.
