This time of year, many homeowners wake up in the morning to find their windows covered in water droplets and begin to wonder why and how to fix the problem. We know how to fix it and rid your home of moisture.

Condensation on windows is not a problem in itself, but if left untreated it can cause damp spots, on which mold may occur. Not only can it damage the structure of your home and create a mess, but mold can be very damaging to your health – especially if you have respiratory, allergy or immune problems.

Using lids when cooking

Using lids to cover pans and pots during cooking ensures a reduction in the amount of moisture released into the air during cooking and water evaporation. When cooking, use an extractor hood above the stove or an exhaust fan, which reduce the moisture created during cooking. Do not turn off the exhaust fan immediately after cooking, as moisture may still be in the air.

Turn on the exhaust fan when using the shower

As with cooking in the kitchen, be sure to turn on the exhaust fan when showering or bathing to remove steam and moisture as soon as it forms. This is especially important if the temperature in the house is low. This will help reduce the amount of condensation that appears on the windows and walls of the bathroom.

Removal of furniture from exterior walls

Don’t place furniture too close to exterior walls, as this affects airflow and creates areas where moisture and mold can grow. Make sure that the furniture is at least 50 mm away from the surrounding walls, to improve air circulation in the building. Place the wardrobes in the bedroom against the inner walls, as they have a higher temperature than the outer walls and thus reduce the risk of moisture and mould.
