A solution for a sore throat that has been popular for many years is to use a natural solution, which only requires a small grain with a specific smell and taste. We are talking about cloves, i.e. dried and fumed flower buds of the clove plant. They have a pungent smell and taste.
What makes them great for soothing a sore throat is the presence of eugenol, a substance that has a strong analgesic and disinfecting effect. However, these are not the only properties of cloves. In addition, they are rich in vitamins C, A, E and those from the B group.
They also contain minerals such as iron, potassium and calcium. Thanks to this, they not only help with sore throats, but when used regularly they can also strengthen our system. Their warming properties are also appreciated, which are especially useful on cold days.
Using cloves for a sore throat is very simple. Enough is enough we will put one grain in our mouth and suck it gently for a few minutes. If we need a stronger effect, we can bite them lightly to release more eugenol oil. Thanks to this, we will increase the effect of home treatment, but we must take into account that the taste also becomes more intense and burning.
It is recommended to use 2-3 cloves daily. They cannot be used in excess as it would lead to digestive problems, and in some people, it could cause allergic reactions. When using, remember to use whole clove seeds, not ground spices.
Besides, we can use cloves to prepare an infusion, which will also support throat treatment. We just need to boil a few grains in water and leave it for 10-15 minutes. Once cooled, it’s enoughdrink the infusion or, if you don’t like the taste, use it as a gargle.
