Estelle Denis: Her darling Marc Thiercelin lived in bohemian mode, a hermit's life without electricity in a cabin house

Curious by nature, Bertrand is always on the lookout for the slightest little scoop. Passionate about football, he is never far from football and all the news that comes with it. However, showbiz or political events are also part of his preferred journalistic research.

A few years ago, our colleagues from “Libération” were interested in the very atypical lifestyle of navigator Marc Thiercelin, today in a relationship with Estelle Denis. We just recently learned that he has an extremely ambitious new sporting project!

A few years ago, our colleagues from Liberation dedicated a portrait to Marc Thiercelin, navigator and today “It is 2005 and Marc Thiercelin settles as a hermit on the top of a hill. A stone’s throw from the semaphore, his cottage overlooks the bay of La Ciotat and opens onto a sea that he is in no hurry to recapture. There is no electricity or running water. He carries cans and provisions on the back of a man. His last sponsor left him stranded. And to make it all better, he limps, fractured tibia and fibula ‘during a party, while dancing’“, we learned about him.

A very special life for someone who ultimately participated in the Vendée Globe 4 times. His best result came in 1996, when he finished in second place overall. He then finished fourth in 2000, before being unclassified in 2004 then abandoning in 2008. Since then, he has met and seems to have made it his priority. But in reality, he is not quite finished with the premier competition.

Marc Thiercelin and his very ambitious project

In an interview given to Figaro last Thursday, November 28, the 64-year-old skipper announced his intention to participate in the 2028 edition, but not just any way. “My idea is to build a boat made of wood, bamboo and hemp to demonstrate that we can go around the world with materials other than carbon, therefore oil, and by using fibers more natural.” !

Another detail and not the least: Marc Theircelin will be 68 years old during the next edition. But that doesn’t scare him: “It will be a challenge to perform at that age. It’s up to me to be up to the task, but I feel capable.” The former partner of Raymond Domenech, with whom she had two children, is fully behind him. Since she supported him via an Instagram story. Which should therefore reassure him in the idea of going after things and following his dream. To be continued!
