The crime allegedly occurred at a party after the 2000 VMAs, where the girl claims to have been drugged and raped. Both Jay-Z and Diddy deny the allegations.

American rapper Jay-Z is being accused, along with music producer Sean “Diddy” Combs, of drugging and raping a 13 year old girl in 2000. The accuser, identified only as “Jane Doe” in the lawsuit, claims the attack occurred at a party after the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in New York. The lawsuit also alleges that an unidentified female celebrity was present during the incident.

The accuser claims that in 2000, a limo driver told her that she “was the kind of person Diddy was looking for” before taking her to a house party. There, according to the lawsuit, he was offered a drink that made her “dizzy”and was later attacked by the two men in the presence of the female celebrity.

According to the lawsuit, Jane Doe managed to escape after resisting the attack. The process seeks financial compensation unspecified, alleging lasting psychological effects on the accuser, including post-traumatic stress and depression.

In a statement released on social media, Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, rejected the accusations, describing the process as an “extortion attempt”. “My lawyer received a extortion attemptcalled a demand letter, from a ‘lawyer’ named Tony Buzbee. What he calculated was that the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle. No, sir, it had the opposite effect!”, says the rapper.

The lawsuit, originally filed in October and refiled on Sunday, now includes Jay-Z as a defendant. The suit was filed under New York’s Gender-Driven Violence Victims Protection Act by Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee, who has represented several of Diddy’s alleged victims in recent months.

Diddy, currently detained, is being accused of lead a sex trafficking network and has been the target of hundreds of individual lawsuits. His arrest has also motivated a lot of speculation and theories about other celebrities who were involved or complicit in covering up his crimes, which took place at his parties, known as “freak-offs”.

In reacting to this latest accusation, Diddy’s legal team called the lawsuit “the latest in a series of blatant marketing stuntsdesigned to extort payments from celebrities.”

Jay-Z, married to singer Beyoncé and father of three children, expressed his anguish over the impact of the accusations on his family. “My only regret is for my family… My wife and I will have to explain to our childrenone of them old enough for his friends to watch the news and ask questions, the cruelty and greed of people”, he laments.

This isn’t the first time Jay-Z has been mentioned amid Diddy’s sex scandal. In October, lawyers for the rapper and Beyoncé threatened to go to court over allegations made by singer Jaguar Wright, who previously worked with Jay-Z, on the Piers Morgan show, where Wright described Diddy and Jay-Z as “monsters”. The British presenter removed this part of the interview and publicly apologized to the couple.

Both Jay-Z and Diddy await court proceedings, with the latter facing more than 30 lawsuits and a criminal trial scheduled for May 5.
