New field of confrontation of the West – is formed in , shortly after the overthrown president found together with his family, in Moscow, one of the two – the other is Tehran – close allies of the regime. He watches the developments numbly, but some strategic players are already envisioning and planning the next day of their relations with the long-suffering country in the heart of the Middle East.
On the one hand, the Kremlin hastened to call for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council behind closed doors on Monday to discuss, according to diplomats, the UN peacekeeping mission in the Golan Heights.
“In connection with the latest events in Syria, the depth and consequences of which for this country and the entire region have yet to be measured, Russia has requested urgent consultations behind closed doors of the UN Security Council,” he wrote in a post on Telegram Deputy Ambassador of Russia to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky.
At the same time, Vladimir Putin’s entourage “informs” that the next day in Syria will find Moscow in the region. Syrian rebels have “guaranteed the security” of Russian military bases in Syria, a Kremlin source told state news agencies today. “Russian officials are in contact with representatives of the armed Syrian opposition, whose leaders have guaranteed the security of Russian military bases and diplomatic services on the territory of Syria,” the source specifically told TASS and Ria Novosti public news agencies.
Massive celebrations across Europe, these are the scenes in Berlin as hundred of thousands of people can now return home from Syria. Assad made at least 12 million into refugees worldwide.

And while all over the world, people are on the streets for the fall of the Assad regime, some, like the German defense minister, see a first-class opportunity for greater involvement in the Middle East, classifying the Russian president among the “losers”.
“A necessary condition for the stabilization of Syria is for the enemy groups to quickly reorganize the internal political situation. Syria must not fall back into the hands of despots and extremists,” Boris Pistorius told the German news agency dpa, pointing out that the fall of Bashar al-Assad would also mark the end of decades of bloody tyranny in Syria.
“Putin support was no longer enough to prop up the murderous regime (…) Russia and Iran are losing a willing ally in their policy of destabilization, and this creates new opportunities for us to contribute to a more stable Middle East,” the German defense minister continued.

On the other side of the Atlantic and in his first reaction, outgoing US President Joe Biden said of the overthrow of the Assad regime that “it is an act of justice that allows the Syrians a historic opportunity.”
“Finally the Assad regime fell. This regime brutally tortured and killed literally hundreds of thousands of innocent Syrians. The fall of the regime is a fundamental act of justice. It is a moment of historic opportunity for the long-term people of Syria to build a better future for their proud country,” he stressed, while warning of “the dangers and uncertainty” arising from the situation.
Biden also said that Bashar al-Assad should be “accountable” for the “hundreds of thousands of innocent Syrians” who were “abused, tortured and killed” and assured that the US would talk with “all Syrian groups and within the process under the auspices of the United Nations, to have a transition to an independent, sovereign Syria, with a new Constitution, a new government that will serve all Syrians”.
The US will support Syria’s neighbors during the transition period and work with partners and stakeholders in Syria to help seize the opportunity and manage the risk, he added, warning that “some of the rebel groups ” who participated in the surprise attack, have “a history of terrorism and human rights violations. We have noted statements by the leaders of these rebel groups in recent days, who are saying what they need to at this time, but as they prepare to take on greater responsibilities, we will evaluate not only their words but their actions.”

At the same time, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its forces had carried out dozens of airstrikes against Islamic State targets in central Syria.
US warplanes have struck more than 75 ISIS targets, hitting the group’s leaders, operatives and camps, the US military said.
The strikes were carried out using multiple US Air Force assets, including B-52s, F-15s and A-10s, US Central Command said on social media.
The raids were carried out as part of the ongoing mission to disrupt, degrade and defeat ISIS, to prevent the terrorist group from conducting external operations and to ensure that ISIS does not try to take advantage of the current situation to regroup in central Syria, CENTCOM reports.
Damage assessment is ongoing and there are no indications of civilian casualties, said CENTCOM, which along with allies and partners in the region, will continue to conduct operations to degrade ISIS’ operational capabilities.
“There should be no doubt – we will not allow ISIS to regroup and take advantage of the current situation in Syria,” said General Michael Eric Kurila. “All organizations in Syria should know that we will hold them accountable if they cooperate with or support ISIS in any way,” he concluded.
