Even fashion is art! Boris Hanečka’s cooperation with the dance theater NØIR Dance Company has underlined this for several years

The chemistry between Hanečka and NØIR began to unfold spontaneously and like from a movie. Dominika Malenovská in addition to her dance work, she worked in the cafe Tepláreň on Zámocká street in Bratislava, where she started a conversation with a customer, not knowing that it was Boris Hanečkawho during his career collaborated with the most popular women – president Zuzana Čaputová, presenter Adela Vinczeová or singer Jana Kirschner.

I remember our first collaboration very clearly. It was a very creative collaboration in which, thanks to the translucent materials used, the characters of the production stood out. This experience inspired me the following year to prepare a new collection, which included the material just mentioned.” mentioned Boris Hanečka, It was Malenovská’s diploma thesis with the title ROOM. “As long-time friends, what unites us most is a sense of improvisation even in difficult situations, but also mutual understanding, trust and cooperation, which have always led to success so far. At the same time, we are more than impressed by the combination of fashion and art with the process of finding new ways to express the essence of the chosen topic through the characters’ characters.” adds the dancer.

Fashion and dance among people

Although art may seem untouchable or distant to most people, the opposite is true. NØIR Dance Company has been on the scene since 2018. Since then, the dance theater has created significant works of art on the Slovak and international scene. The ensemble focuses on connecting modern, contemporary and neoclassical dance and thematically deals with socially sensitive and taboo topics, for example family dynamics (ROOM2019), the place of man in society (common2020) or the position of women in society (Fertuška2024). The creation of a dance-drama troupe goes beyond the stage, so the collective can also be seen in short videos.

Haneček’s work is characterized by motifs from historical clothing and folk art. In addition to fashion, he is actively involved in costume design for film, television and theater. Among his most important projects are costumes for performances Otello in the State Opera House in Banská Bystrica and Turandot in the National Theater in Prague. If anyone understands people, it is the Hanečka-NØIR combination.

I can’t fully imagine the presentation of my collections without the presence of the girls from NØIR. One of the first collaborations was the presentation of the Aurum 2018 collection, which was also our first joint work at a fashion show.” describes the designer. It is a tour where Malenovská et al. they acted as nurses from a haunted medical facility. The performance was said to have been arranged almost at the last minute, yet it resonated with the visitors for a very long time.

For the first time, I had the opportunity to try out, in addition to the position of choreographer, the position of director of Boris’ part of the show last year, where I also appeared on the catwalk as one of the models. This year we succeeded again on the last day of Fashion Live, where together with Monika Prikkelová we took responsibility for the entire fashion show of Boris Hanečka and Lukáš Krnáč.” Dominika Malenovská praises herself. They collaborated for the first time as a pair at the recent Unboxing show on the occasion of the opening of a new part of the Aupark in Bratislava. Haneček was seconded as a designer by the young talent Peter Sýkora. In their designs, NØIR’s dance creations were unforgettable.

The fateful connection that chance wanted does not end. Tandem is currently preparing for a mysterious project with the singer Selling Silence. The dance video, which promises an unprecedented connection of music, fashion and movement, is already raising great expectations in the corridors. Although they are not revealing the details yet, everything indicates that it will be an exceptional artistic achievement that will once again push the boundaries of creativity and aesthetics on the Slovak art scene. Enthusiasts of art, including fashion and dance, can already be in tense anticipation.
