During podcast interview On Scenedo ContilNetthis Monday (17), the Secretary of Education, Aberson Carvalho, criticized the bill that inserts the Bible in schools. The text, authored by councilor Arnaldo Barros, was approved by the Rio Branco City Council and sanctioned by mayor Tião Bocalom.
“We are living in a pathological society. Having the Bible at school is not a problem, the requirement is the problem. That’s what the project talks about: mandatory. We need to understand that the State is secular. I am a Christian and I understand that Jesus came into the world to save us, but I cannot impose my religion on people. The great wars in the world had a religious nature. We cannot have this Shiite, extremist state, which does not unite, which disintegrates and where there is no communion. I start to see pathologies in this country and in the world. We have been looking for extremes when the center is convergence. We can all live together in the same space,” said Aberson.

The measure, approved by the City Council, aims to allow the Bible to be used as an optional study resource, taking into account historical, philosophical, sociological, cultural and archaeological approaches. The State Public Ministry (MPAC) was against the proposal because it understood that it violates the constitutional principles of secularism, based on the same recent understanding of the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
“School is not a space for that. The school is the environment of science, and science has no religion”, added the secretary.
The manager highlighted that issues involving values and religion are the responsibility of the family.
“You need to teach students all the religious movements. Look how incredible it is: we try to put the Bible in schools and forget that Acre created Santo Daime. Look how precious. It is our identity, our history. How can I deny conceptions of the world that are not mine? The school environment is for us to discuss science, the teaching-learning relationship. Questions of values and religion are up to mom and dad. If we have this greatness that a teacher is not a father or a mother, we will make great progress in the quality of education and in a better society”, he concluded.
