The project for a US high-speed train that would link the state capital of Los Angeles with San Francisco, California, in a journey of less than three hours was an issue that attracted the interest of Spanish companies in the past. Although construction companies such as ACS and Ferrovial managed to access work in the central section of the corridor, Talgo’s aspirations to carry the Avril high-speed platform were cut short.
It was the companies Alstom and Siemens that ended up being selected as finalists. This is how the salmon newspaper reported it in his day. However, and despite the enormous figures that accompanied it, this project currently has a deficit of one hundred billion… million dollars.
As reported by the French portal in a report, the total cost of the project to extend the line to San Francisco could even amount to around 129 billion euros.
How is the ‘Los Angeles-San Francisco AVE’ project going?
And so far there is only a 120-mile (191.5-kilometer) stretch in the process of construction. Everything is concentrated in the Central Valley area, from Madera to Shafter. Although it already has environmental authorization to increase work in Merced and Bakersfield, funds have not yet been secured for this phase. The best forecasts for this central section to be operational already assume a delay that ranges between 2030 and 2033.
