The vice mayor of Madrid, Inma Sanz, clarified this Tuesday, one day before the new restrictions on the mobility of cars without an environmental label come into force in Madrid, that they applied to the “general area” and not to the zones specials, which will cause unlabeled vehicles registered in the Special Protection Low Emission Zones (ZBE) of Centro and Plaza Elíptica to be fined for driving or parking in their own neighborhood. Improper access to ZBEs in any part of the national territory is a serious traffic offense and carries a fine of 200 euros, which can be reduced to 100 for prompt payment.
Starting this Wednesday, vehicles that do not have an environmental label and that are registered in the capital will be able to circulate in the city in 2025, although the ban already in force for those that are not registered in Madrid remains in place. But Sanz has explained, in statements after a , that “the notice period that was extended was for the general low emissions zone of the entire city of Madrid” and, therefore, it is for vehicles without a label registered in that zone. “to whom both the extended notice period of 12 months applied, as well as the announcement that was made that they would be allowed to park during these 12 months.”
The vice mayor added that the situation of the residents of Plaza Elíptica and Centro is “much more specific” and “affects a very small number of vehicles in the Low Emission Zones of Special Protection”, which she has not quantified. In that sense, he has advanced that “what they are doing from the Environment Area is studying the situation of these vehicles case by case.” Likewise, he has reiterated that the situation of these vehicles “has nothing to do with the current moratorium that has been made with this extended notice period.”
The citizen service Línea Madrid, through a consultation carried out by Servimedia, reported on Monday that people with an unlabeled vehicle registered in the Centro and Plaza Elíptica ZBEs will receive a financial penalty if they circulate through their neighborhoods, excluding them. of the notice period announced by the City Council.
Likewise, they reported that “as of 01/01/2025, residents registered in the Central District cannot obtain authorization from SER Resident for A classification vehicles”, so they will also be sanctioned if they park in the green or blue zones of your neighborhood. From Línea Madrid they explained that these neighbors will have to take their vehicles out of the Plaza Elíptica or Centro ZBEs before January 1, 2025 if they do not want to be fined.
